Wow...over six weeks since your reply with questions about rugby...sorry about that. What else can I say? Been on the road (back and forth from Oz to LA) and then playing catch up with work. Anyhow, mate...rugby union is basically moving the ball up the field by throwing it backwards (similar to your "lateral". There is no huddle so as soon as the ball is on the ground your team can pick it up and run forward into a tackle, kick the ball forward and chase it (hoping to re-capture it before the other team), or pass the ball back to another player so that he can run forward. The idea is to pass back about 5 yards and then hopefully the runner can carry the ball forward 10 yards and then pass back again 2 yards behind him (thus moving the ball a total of 3 yards forward). It is a very fast game with the ball in motion continually. They play for pretty much 80 minutes shifting from offense to defense whenever the ball changes teams (fumble or interception). Full on tackle contact with very few pads and helmets optional. RIC

Hey thanks, I like skillet a lot. My favorite band is Third Day though. That's why I have consuming fire first on my list. I hope you're having a good day today. RIC

Australians are sports mad mate! Anything with a ball involved is nearly religion. There are four different games here called football (and none of them are much like your American style which is called "gridiron". Here "footie" is either rugby league (mostly Sydney), rugby union (international), Australian rules (mostly Melbourne and mostly kicking and running), and soccer. All of them are fine but I prefer either form of rugby--like full on gridiron contact sport with no helmets and not many pads. RIC
