Wow, now that's what I call a "take"! You brought up so many subjects that it'll take me awhile to digest it all! But you bring up a good point and one that I thought of while I said that. That is the great thing about Austen, the layers of social structure she exposes (at least from what I see in her movies). I always notice how the lives of the servant (lower classess) seem to depend on the local "landowner". In Persuasion they seemed to suffer with the loss of Sir Elliot's estate, you could see it in the faces of the servants and local ppl that looked on as they left. I agree totally with you which is another reason I find it so interesting. The tension between the classes and arrogant assumptions of the wealthy. Now about the spiritual climate here and the UK. You talked about cells or pockets of spiritual life. I recently heard that one out of three churches in the UK are "House Churches", are you by any chance referring to this movement? I think I understand what you are saying about the impact of the reformation and the holiness movement. I think that a wealthy establishment had much to do with the impact of the spiritual awakenings of history. America was struggling well into the 19th century, we weren't as "fat and happy" as we are now. In the Uk, at least as I understand Wesley who preached to the coal miner's and the poor/oppressed out in the field. This was unheard of in his day. But I can see much less wealth in America being a contributing factor in the revivalism taking a so much stronger hold here. Perhaps this explains the decline in the strength of American Christianity? Well just some random thoughts, I suppose you have processed this much more than I. Lots of interesting stuff to consider. we'll have to talk again. RIC

I agree, we have both versions too and the 95 version is awesome! I just think the social interaction, propriety and class structure is so intriguing. It was a day when men could be respectful to women and treat them like women. Today you can get on utube and see a bunch of girls beat the daylights out of each other. It doesn't seem we have progressed much! RIC

hi, glad to have you! A drum circle or rhythm circle is a community event that lets ppl get together and do music together! Using percussion instruments we play the parts of a "song" together. Its really cool because each song is different and changes and evolves as we go along. Mostly percussion instruments (drums, bells such as cowbells, shakers or whatever) but also other instruments like guitar or even horns. Each instrument adds something new! Lots of drum circle clips on utube! Well thats enough of that:) talk to you more soon! God bless. RIC
